Message from the President:
'Tis
the season....
On the TV and radio, in the newspaper, via email and
twitter, it seems as though we just can't escape the messages of the month: SPEND!
GIVE! GET! From "Black Friday" (or is it now going to be "Black
Thursday"?) on, it's all about deals and discounts and shop 'til you drop.
"Open until Midnight" or "We Never Close"...it's hard to
decide where to go or what to buy. Of course, once the wrapping is torn
off, the worry begins: Was it the right size or color? Did they like it? Where's
the receipt in case it needs to be returned?
But there's one gift that doesn't need to be wrapped,
won't break and is never returned. The recipient is overwhelmingly grateful and
"one size fits all". It won't ever go out of style and actually lasts
a lifetime. What is this perfect item? A donation to the San Fernando Valley
Bruins Scholarship Endowment Fund. In the last 30 years, our alumni network has
financially assisted over 150 UCLA students and helped them realize their dream
of a UCLA education. One of our recent SFVB Scholarship recipients is now in his
first year at the UCLA School of Law after graduating summa cum laude. Another
is continuing her education at UCLA as a Ph.D. candidate in Engineering. Not
long ago, these were "neighborhood kids", the ones who went to our
local schools. You may have lived right next door to them or been friends with their
parents. Now we share the common bond of being UCLA Alumni. They are
beneficiaries of your transformative gift...and there are many more out there hoping for the same opportunity.
So before you get caught up in all the holiday hoopla,
please take a minute to remember to put UCLA on your gift giving list. It's

Whichever way you decide to donate, please make sure to to select the SFVB fund or reference our fund number of 81194E. In the spirit of the season, YOU will be getting a gift as well...a receipt for a tax deduction! Whatever the

Holiday Party

The SFV Bruins Annual Holiday Party (think "FIESTA") will take palce on Sunday, December 11 at 5:00pm. The cost is only $10 per person and includes a delicious dinner, dessert, coffee and soft drinks and an "adult beverage" drink ticket (additional alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase). In the spirit of the seaason, we will once again be collecting packaged and canned food items, personal products and/or monetary donations for the UCLA Food Closet to benefit UCLA students in need (a detailed list will be provided to you along with the address and directions to the event). Cirque Du Soleil-"OVO"

Under the Grand Chapiteau ("Big Top") at the Santa Monica Pier
The SFV Bruins have reserved a large block of discounted (!!!) seats to Cirque's new show "OVO" which promises to be an amazing experience for Bruins of ALL ages.
“OVO is a headlong rush into a colorful
ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play,
fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects'
home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments
of quiet emotion.”
Ticket prices range from $40-$65 for adults and $25-$40 for children 2-12 (a savings of up to 24%, depending on seat location). Tickets are non-refundable and will only be available for purchase via PayPal. All tickets must be purchased no later than December 28, 2012.
